HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Holyoke has a new officer…of the four-legged variety.
K-9 officer Ryker was introduced to the public Friday. He is now ready to protect and serve the streets of Holyoke with his partner, Officer Matt Welch.
Police Chief James Neiswanger says it’s a logical progression for them to acquire a K-9 as a tool of the trade to make things safer.
“The dog has tracking abilities, to track suspects, and he can also locate lost children and such, so the dog has a wide range of capabilities,” says Neiswanger.
Ryker is just the first K-9 to join the force. The chief says they do expect to get a couple more come this Spring.
