NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Authorities are withholding search warrants and police records related to the Newtown, Conn., school massacre even though the shooter is dead and the prosecutor handling the case has said he does not expect any charges.
Prosecutor Stephen Sedensky III successfully argued in December to keep search warrants related to the shooter’s house and the car he drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School sealed for 90 days, saying disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing investigation.
Media outlets have pressed for the release of more records, which could shed light on a crime that has revived the national debate over gun control. They say records may be sealed only when an investigation would be hurt by disclosure and that was unlikely.
The gunman killed his mother, 20 first-graders and six educators on Dec. 14.
Don’t really know why the media needs access to anymore information. These poor families have been through enough and should have to keep reading about it. What’s done is done and the sick individual who killed those sweet innocent children is dead so let it go so the families can start putting the pieces of their broken lives together again.
There may be information in these records that could help prevent future acts like these.
How can people be okay with the state sealing records that may shed light on this terrorism? Obviously there must be information that they don’t want us to know or see… Hmmmm like maybe the so called “assault rifle” wasn’t the firearm used?
They are covering up a lot. Even when the information is released, not all of it will be available. They will hide the full story. Like all the media stories nowadays, it’s hyped. They have a lot of questions to answer some day.
Certainly if they’re using this as a war cry against guns they need full disclosure or take it off the table and go back to our Second Amendment with no infringement.
The medical examiner filed a request to the Senate I believe, 1 year prior to this event, to make it so that they don’t have to honor info requests pertaining to juvenile murder victims. The Senate(I think) passed it, and now he is the examiner in this case. Draw your own conclusions.
Its funny that at first the M.E and state police stated on record numerous times that the “AR” was used. Well once that was proven to be a myth now they want to hide more from the public. Honestly, how can the father of a dead child laugh and joke just prior to a press interview in newtown? The whole thing seems “off”.
