Holyoke Police Arrest Suspect in Shooting of Father and 5-Year-Old Son

marrero brianHOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Holyoke police have arrested a city man they suspect shot a man and his 5-year-old son Wednesday afternoon on North Summer Street.

21-year-old Brian Marrero of Holyoke was taken into custody around 7:00 p.m. Friday, according to Holyoke Police Chief James Neiswanger.

On Wednesday, officers were called to the area of Lyman Street and North Summer Street around 12:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found two victims: a 5-year-old boy, who was shot in the knee, and a 26-year-old man now identified as Reynaldo Diaz.

Their injuries were non-life threatening.

Right now, Marrero is facing a charge related on an outstanding warrant. Holyoke Police Lt. Matthew Moriarty say they do expect to file a number of firearm charges against him.

More information on Friday’s arrest is set to be released Saturday by Chief Neiswanger.

Can we safely assume that Mr. Marrero is a PR, or a member of some other so called “Hispanic” ethnic group and does it really matter? And will other “indignant” people here with “Hispanic” last names come out yet again and make disparaging noises about this. Part of the problem is the Federal government’s method of labeling many, diverse ethnic groups as being “Hispanic” or “Latino” even though they do not really belong. All this does is is dilute the heritage of each ethnic group.
