Penn National Signs Agreement to Refurbish Paramount Theater

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Penn National Gaming has signed an agreement to refurbish Springfield’s historic Paramount Theater.

The theater is located near Penn National’s casino proposal in the North End.

Penn National’s Eric Schippers says restoration of the old theater building is a key element to the company’s $800 million casino proposal.

“The important thing is this is going to supplement the types of entertainment at CityStage and Symphony Hall and at the MassMutual Center, so it’s not going to take away. It’s going to add to entertainment offerings in Springfield,” says Schippers.

The agreement was signed with the New England Farm Workers Council which has plans to revitalize the adjoining block where the Paramount is located.

The restoration project is conditional on Penn National Gaming being awarded the one gaming license for Western Mass. by the Mass. Gaming Commission.
