Warmer Weather Follows Winter Storm in New England

plumismorphBOSTON (AP) — Southern New England residents reeling from a late winter storm that dumped up to 2 feet of snow in two days are relishing warmer weather that will gradually melt some of the packed snow.

Temperatures are forecast to be in the 40s during the day in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island through Monday. Temperatures will fall to the 20s at night, causing some of the melting snow to freeze and create problems for untreated surfaces.

National Weather Service meteorologist Kim Buttrick said Saturday that the rosy picture on land does not extend offshore, where a gale warning is in force because gusty winds and high seas will make conditions treacherous. In Massachusetts, two houses tumbled into the sea on Plum Island and other homes were badly damaged in the storm.
