SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A man is recovering in the hospital this morning after police say he flipped his car on Interstate 91 South in Springfield.

State Police say that the male driver may have been drinking and tried to outrun the officers who attempted to pull him over.

The car flipped and ended up on its roof near Exit 1 to Route 5 toward Longmeadow shortly before 2:00 a.m. Monday, according to police.

The crash closed off the exit for about an hour as emergency crews rescued the driver an cleared the scene.

The exit has since re-opened.
