Don’t Drink And Drive This St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

Police-Drink DrivingHOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Law enforcement want people to think twice before they drink and drive this St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

“If you think you may have had too many get someone to bring you home,” said Lt. Matthew Moriarty, Holyoke Police Department.

The Holyoke Police Department will have dozens of officers on patrol in addition to State Police, Sheriffs Department and help from surrounding communities.

Bar owners are also preparing for this weekend by adding security to make sure their patrons don’t get into trouble.

“We have numerous police officers. We have security staff and we don’t let it get carried away,” said Matt McDonough, owner Francie’s Tavern.

People getting an early start on the weekend says they’re planning on being safe.

“We have people that pick us up. We put cars in one spot, no one is driving,” said Jason Lortie, Holyoke.

For people in the Paper City this weekend is a chance to catch up with old friends.

“It’s pure fun you like to see everyone smiling happiness great time for everyone,” said Lortie.

“It’s really an exciting time,” said McDonough.
