Evacuated Residents Return Home Following West Springfield Gas Leak

gasleakWEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) – A gas leak in West Springfield had residents out of their homes earlier tonight as officials evacuated nearby homes.

The West Springfield Fire Department says a leak was reported near 625 Union Street, a location identified as Anns Catering Service.

Neighbors living along parts of Union and George Streets had been told to leave the area

Several streets were blocked as gas crews worked to determine the cause and severity of the leak.

Just before 9:30 tonight, fire department officials said the situation was brought under control and the danger alleviated.

Residents were told they could return to their homes and the streets were reopened to traffic.
