UMass Misses NCAA Tourney, Grabs #2 Seed in NIT

40-Umass logoAMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) — The brackets have been set and UMass has missed the NCAA Tournament. However, their season will continue.

It was announced Sunday night that the Minutemen (21-11) will be the number two seed in the NIT and will host Stony Brook (24-7) Wednesday night at 7:15 at the Mullins Center.

The winner of that game will face the winner of Iowa-Indiana State in the second round.

This year’s invite to the tournament marks the team’s second appearance in the NIT in two years and the first time its had back-to-back postseason appearances since 2007 and 2008.

Last year, the Minutemen reached the NIT Final Four, before losing to the Stanford Cardinal.

UMass’ record at the Mullins Center this season is 10-4, and they are 4-0 in NIT games in Amherst.
