LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB) — A woman in Ludlow is safe at home after going missing for 8 hours Sunday night.
Geraldine Morgan, 70, went missing while going on a hike in the area of Facing Rock near Center Street and the Ludlow reservoir.
Sgt. Mike Brennan told ABC40 that Ludlow and State police led the search aided by the Wilbraham K9 unit and Environmental Police. They also brought in the State Police Air Wing helicopter to find the Morgan.
But it was two Ludlow firefighters — Jay Pease and Matthew Niles — who found Morgan.
Morgan, who did not have a cell phone, was reunited with family just after midnight and checked out by paramedics.
Morgan did not go to the hospital, despite being out in cold temperatures for many hours. Police said her warm clothes helped her brave the weather.
“We were very concerned for her and everybody involved, and we even had some people who wanted to volunteer,” said Sgt. Brennan, “we had to turn them away obviously it was unsafe.”
ABC40 First Warning Meteorologist Don Maher said the overnight low temperature in the Ludlow/Chicopee area was 14 degrees.
