Police Still Looking for Suspect in Shooting of 11-Year-Old Girl
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) –According to police, one man tried to cut the line that had formed in front of expressions on Boston Road Saturday morning. There was a verbal argument, and then police say one man pistol whipped another.
He was able to break away, but when the other started firing, an 11 year old girl got hit in the leg. Police aren’t releasing her name, but she was treated and released from Baystate Medical Center, and is home recovering with her family. “She’s tough, but she’s been traumatized. As I spoke with mom again this morning, obviously she’s in pain, as she heals,” Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno shared.
Police say in situations like this, stores should not hesitate to call them if they think an event like a sneaker release will present a problem. A representative from Expressions says that they usually do have security detail for high profile sneaker releases, but didn’t consider Saturday’s to be one of them. They said going forward they do hope to put some more detail at their Boston Rd. store.
Police say they’ve seen similar incidents before, and are confident they’ll make an arrest soon.
They say the shooting might have been gang related.
