Cause of Death Released for Amherst Fire Victim

AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) — Officials have released the cause of death of a UMass student nearly two months after he died in a fire.
21-year-old James Hoffman of Stoughton died the morning of Monday, January 21 after fire broke out at a unit at the Rolling Green Apartments.
The fire tore through the building containing that apartment along with nine other units, causing extensive damage. Hoffman’s body was found on the second floor.
Amherst Fire Chief Tim Nelson says Tuesday that Hoffman died of smoke inhalation
Nelson adds that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
