Firefighters Battle Monson Garage Fire

MONSON, Mass. (WGGB) — A Monson man has his two dogs to thank for alerting him to a fire Wednesday.

Monson Fire Chief Laurent McDonald says that around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, a fire started in a wood pile at a residence on Waid Street.

That fire then extended to a nearby garage.

A resident, who was asleep at home at the time, was awaken by his pets. That person then tried to fight the fire with a garden hose, but McDonald notes that the hose was frozen and too small to fight the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries have been reported, and there is no cost estimate on how much damage was caused.
