PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A Republican sheriff in Massachusetts is defending a joke he told at a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast in which President Abraham Lincoln visits President Barack Obama in a dream and suggests he go to the theater.
Lincoln was assassinated in a theater and Democratic critics say even a joke suggesting the current president might get shot was inappropriate, especially from a public safety official.
Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald Jr. made the joke Sunday at the heavily Republican breakfast in Scituate.
He told the Patriot Ledger of Quincy on Tuesday the uproar over an old joke is “absurd.”
He said it was no different than Democrats joking about former President George W. Bush going hunting with former Vice President Dick Cheney, who accidentally shot a hunting partner in 2006.

good for Him…As far as I knew ….we still have the freedom of SPEECH…and since when…can’t he speak…even if its a joke…Look at facebook…many people speak…good, bad…. and very ugly….so what…
stupid
The 1st amendment protects douche bags too.
These days we need to be careful of what we say or do.
Good for him. People are so uptight
Funny. Is this a sequel? Enough Lincoln movies and books this past year. Listen to the Criminal Liberal Democratic Press regarding the Bush and Palin families.
We should band the 1st amendment too, cause it could be used as verbal assault.
I’m sure no one here ever jokes about improper things. Fk’n stupid liberal people are ripping this country apart.
