SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Three people including a student were taken to the hospital after a crash Wednesday afternoon involving four cars and a school bus.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, a school bus was trying to take a left off of Cottage Street onto Berkshire Avenue, when the driver allegedly went through a stop sign.

As the bus was making the turn, Delaney adds that a Ford Taurus was heading down Berkshire Avenue at a high rate of speed when it collided with the bus.

The impact of the crash caused the Taurus to spin and then hit two other cars.

A student was on-board the bus when the crash happened. Both the student and the bus driver were up and walking around before being taken by ambulance to an area hospital to get checked out.

The driver of the Taurus was also taken to the hospital.

Delaney notes that the driver of the bus and the driver of the Taurus will both be cited.

That area of Berkshire Avenue was closed for a time while crews worked to cleanup the scene and officers investigated. Traffic is now moving through the area.
