Springfield Police Looking for Shoplifting Suspect

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police are looking for the public’s help to identify a man accused of stealing hundreds of dollars of merchandise.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, a man walked into the Ocean State Job Lot on Boston Road.

That man then allegedly gathered several items that were valued at “hundreds of dollars” and tried to leave the store, Delaney adds.

A Loss Prevention Officer then confronted the suspect as he was leaving, when a fight broke out between the two and the suspect allegedly threatened to stab the employee with a knife.

Police describe the man as in 50’s, weighing about 180 pounds, with a grey beard. He was last seen wearing a baseball hat, a green hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Springfield Police Detective Bureau at (413) 787-6355 or you can ‘Text-A-Tip.’ With your cell phone, send the message to CRIMES (274637), and in the message, type SOLVE and your tip.
