SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – A driver is under arrest and a woman and young child are recovering after a collision Tuesday morning in Springfield.

According to Springfield Police, around 8:30 Tuesday, the woman and child were hit by a Jeep near the corner of Main and Osgood Streets.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital. Springfield Police Officer Charles Youmans says that she is suffering from a broken leg, while the child just has some bruises.

Shortly after the crash, Youmans adds that investigators arrested 40-year-old Ivan Vega of Springfield on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violations, and giving a fale name to a police officer.

Feel sorry for the child..why not try cross walk next time!

This is so sad and they are in my prayers., But this is getting worse every day. Myself being a pedestrian and a driver i have seen it all. As i drive I have seen pedestrians cross between two parked cars with their little ones coming out first yes it really upsets me to see this… what ever happened to common sense or what about what some of us were raised on ” CROSS AT THE GREEN NOT IN BETWEEN”… I know it is a lot easier and more closer for you to cross the street in the center rather than walk to the nearest intersection or crosswalk… but is convenience worth your life or the life of your child? Take them few extra steps.

If u walk on that st u will notice there r no crosswalks except at the main intercestionsa ways down…sad this is just a block from where the pregnant woman was killed last month

The police need to start giving tickets for J/walking not saying that this idiot behind the wheel with no license was in the right but pedestrians should follow the laws as well

The guy had no license and he is driving.
This is the problem not crosswalks, plus pedestrians have thr right away no matter what. Ivan will be out by Thursday doing the same stuff because the judges say he has rights. The victim has no rights she is in the hospital with broken bones.

Nearly 14% of drivers have no insurance. 3/4 of drivers with a suspended or revoked license continue to drive. In Colorado alone, there are an estimated 225,000 drivers with out a license on the roads. Pedestrians who don’t use a designated crosswalk have a 50% greater chance of being fatally injured. Most drivers are prepared to stop for a pedestrian in a designated crosswalk. Most drivers are not ready for someone who darts out into the road from between parked cars.

Zoezema who looks for the cross walk down the street park by it, then walk to where you’re going? No one, you park in front of the business you’re going to….. This jackass should’ve never been driving. Don’t make excuses for him. This poor young woman and child did nothing wrong, but be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Thank The Lord that no one in your family woke up yesterday morning and got hit by an unlicensed reckless driver, no matter where they were parked.
