Boston College Wants Campus Condom Distribution Ended

NEWTON, Mass. (AP) — Boston College is threatening disciplinary action against a group of students who distribute condoms out of their dorm rooms, but the American Civil Liberties Union says the university is violating student rights and is prepared to bring legal action.

BC officials sent a letter on March 15 demanding an end to student-run Safe Sites, a network of dorm rooms and other locations where free contraceptives and safe-sex information are available. The university says the distribution of condoms is a violation of the school’s Roman Catholic values.

Lizzie Jekanowski, chairwoman of BC Students for Sexual Health, tells The Boston Globe the administration has known about the condom distribution for two years yet has never before threatened action.

An attorney at the ACLU of Massachusetts says BC may be breaking the law.

These people should be expelled from the school. I have had it with the attacks on our religion. If you don’t like our religious structure get the blank out of our school.

What ever happened to buying condoms at the drugstore? Years ago they were kept behind the counter and the guys had to ask for them. Now they are out in plain view. It’s just another freebie entitlement.

Jdog, in addition to being arrogant, you are also pretty ignorant! How do you know you won’t find a college anywhere in the world filled with pious virgins? Have you even stepped outside this country? The country I come from, most young women and men I knew in college were all virgins, including myself! Not everyone in the world is obsessed with sex and promiscuity as you think!

Also, a private institution has every right to forbid certain practices on its campus. Would your work place allow you to distribute free condoms? Try even Dunkin Donuts! And wait to get fired. There is no legal right and freedom to do whatever you want on someone else’s property. BC is well within its rights and the ACLU is a bully!
