City Receives $190K Rebate on Energy Costs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Springfield’s new Putnam Vocational Technical High School is saving money in energy costs.

City leaders and representatives from Western Mass. Electric gathered at Putnam Wednesday to acknowledge the savings.

Putnam has installed energy efficient equipment including advanced lighting, as well as premium-efficiency heating and cooling systems.

“We’re here to present a $190,000 check as a rebate to the city for the measures they installed. They’re going to save 1.1 million kilowatt hours of energy per year. It will save them about $130,000 on their bill which they otherwise would have consumed at this location,” says Peter Clarke, Chief Operating Officer for Western Mass. Electric.

Mayor Sarno says Putnam now serves as a state-of-the-art showcase that the entire city can be proud of.
