Fmr. Holyoke Catholic Soccer Coach Remains in Custody

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A former soccer coach, accused of sexually exploiting children, will remain behind bars.

37-year-old Michael Dupont appeared in U.S. Federal Court in Springfield Wednesday afternoon for a detention hearing.

Judge Kenneth Neiman ordered that Dupont remain in custody.

A federal criminal complaint was filed last week alleging that Dupont had been communicating with and had sent inappropriate emails to a 14-year-old girl in Vermont.

According to the complaint, Dupont allegedly admitted to receiving explicit pictures of at least five different girls online including the girl from Vermont, once he was in custody. He also allegedly admitted to asking the girl to pose nude over the webcam and to knowing that she was 14 or 15 years old.

Federal prosecutors have thirty days from Dupont’s first appearance, which was March 21, to seek an indictment or request an extension.

Also, because the case involves a person from Vermont, prosecutors indicated Wednesday that the indictment may come from U.S. Federal Court in Vermont.
