Four-Alarm Blaze at Lynn Apartment Building was Arson

Fire320
LYNN, Mass. (AP) — Investigators say a fire in a Lynn apartment building this week that displaced more than 60 residents was deliberately set.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and Lynn Fire Chief James McDonald announced Wednesday that the four-alarm blaze reported just before midnight Sunday was arson. They did not disclose a cause.

The building on Lewis Street had 25 units, but it was damaged beyond repair and must be torn down.

The blaze sent residents scrambling out of windows and down fire escapes, but no injuries were reported. Building management said they had just replaced the batteries in the smoke detectors.

Anyone with any information about the fire is asked to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229.
