Springfield DPW Plans Improvements to Dangerous Intersection

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The Springfield intersection where a school bus was involved in an accident last week could see some improvements.

Springfield DPW director Al Chwalek says his department is looking into adding a left turning lane to the intersection of Cottage Street and Berkshire Avenue, which would then give the intersection a dedicated right turn lane and left turn lane.

That project is in this year’s construction plan, but is contingent on the required funding coming through.

Many in that area had argued the intersection needs a traffic light, but Chwalek adds that addition is not in the works at this time.

  • The truth

I actually was there and watched your mom not look both ways. Accidents happen especially when you become complacent after 16 years of driving, and others driving too fast. Stop light = dumb idea
Enforcing speed limit and not turning right from left lane = good idea Nice uniformed rant though…
