Remembering Marine Lance Cpl. Roger Muchnick

LENOX, Mass. (WGGB) — A fallen Marine with ties to Western Massachusetts is remembered today.

Funeral services were held at St. Ann’s Church in Lenox for Lance Corporal Roger Muchnick.

Corporal Muchnick was killed two weeks ago in a military training exercise when a mortar shell exploded killing several marines.

Muchnick was close to his grandparents who lived in Lenox and spent a lot of time with them while growing up.

His funeral was held in the church where his grandparents were parishioners.

Marines like Haydee Klein were well represented. “Just my condolences go out to the family in times like this”, says Klein.

Haydee and Harry Klein came from Chicopee to attend the funeral.

“My wife is a career marine, she served for 18 years, I served for 8 years and we’re looking forward to paying our respects to a fellow service member that we lost,” says Harry Klein.

Some 50 marines in full uniform attended the funeral. Their bond is close.

“Roger’s a Marine, Roger died a very tragic death, unfortunate, we hold him near and dear, that’s all, a brother Marine,” says former Marine Peter Risatti.

Family members described the fallen Marine as kind, smart, funny and brave enough to die for us.

Lance Corporal Roger Muchnick was 23 years old.
