PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (WGGB) — A bridge that connects Maine to New Hampshire is closed to traffic after a tanker hits the structure.

WMUR-TV reports that the ship, named the Harbour Feature, broke free from a state pier earlier Monday afternoon and floated down the Piscatagua River and collided with the Sarah Long Bridge.

The bridge carries Route 1 over the river, and connects Portsmouth, N.H. to Kittery, Maine and now is closed to vehicular traffic.

WMUR adds that the boat was carrying tallol oil and yellow grease when it hit the bridge and that crew members were on-board at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
