Charitable Egg Drop Goes Awry in Amesbury

AMESBURY, Mass. (AP) — Organizers of a charitable egg drop in Amesbury are apologizing after the event drew thousands of people without tickets, caused massive traffic jams, resulted in shoving and pushing, crying children, and 911 calls from parents who couldn’t find their kids.

Eggdrop-Palooza was organized by Beecher Grogan to benefit Lucy’s Love Bus. The charity is named for Grogan’s daughter, who died of leukemia six years ago at age 12.

Saturday’s event was held at a private park and involved a helicopter dropping thousands of candy-filled plastic Easter eggs for children to pick up.

Grogan tells the Newburyport Daily News that “chaos ensued.”

Grogan, park officials and police plan on meeting to ensure future events run more smoothly.

The good news is the event raised more than $30,000, well above the $20,000 goal.

Well your first mistake was letting children of ALL ages participate. I wouldn’t want a 17 year old vs. My small innocent 2 year old trying to fight over candy. Wtf???
