HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — It will now be a violation of a city ordinance to hold coveted parade viewing spots sooner than 24 hours before the event.

Holyoke City Council President Kevin Jourdain says that the council unanimously voted Tuesday night 13-0 to ban putting out chairs or other placeholders until 24 hours before the start of events like the annual St. Patrick’s parade.

With regards to the parade, chairs and other items will not be allowed until after 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

Any items put out before that 24-hour window, Jourdain notes, will be removed by the city’s Department of Public Works.

WGGB encourages readers to share their thoughts and engage in healthy dialogue about the issues. Comments containing personal attacks, profanity, offensive language or advertising will be removed. Please use the report comment function for any posts you feel should be reviewed. Thank you.

And some towns will arrest and fine you for littering and air pollution if you release a bunch of helium balloons into the air.
