All Lanes of I-91 Reopen After Hole Forms in Roadway

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A missing piece of concrete caused some traffic issues in downtown Springfield during Wednesday’s rush hour.

State Police assigned to the Springfield barracks say that just before 5:00 p.m., they began receiving calls about a big chunk of concrete was gone from the roadway, creating a hole in the road on I-91 northbound between Exit 8 (I-291) and Exit 9.

MassDOT representative, Sara Lavoie told us, “We had to patch a large hole in the road that occurred after some debris fell from a truck I-91 NB at exit 8.”

Traffic was down to one lane for a time, but State Police say all lanes were reopened just after 6:00 p.m.

Sinkhole on an elevated highway! The missing piece is probably in the back of somebody’s pickup truck.

Well i drove over the spot in the road that they fixed I think and got a good kickup of rocks. I hope that isnt a permanent fix.

why are they blaming it on “debris falling from a NB truck”?? just admit the infrastructure of that whole corridor needs replacing – and soon….and yes Jason, I too avoid it whenever possible.
