Multiple Towns Respond to Wales House Fire

WALES, Mass. (WGGB) — Firefighters work on putting out a house fire on Main Street in Wales but the wind posed problems.

Emergency personnel were notified of the fire around 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Flames continued to flare up for a while in a few spots at the home which is located at 14 Main Street.

The wind did not help firefighters tonight as it just fueled the fire more.

Seven fire departments responded including Monson, Holland, Brimfield, Warren, Sturbridge, West Stafford, Conn. and Wales.

Because there are no hydrants available, water was trucked in to help put out the flames.

Police who responded as well say that one person was home at the time and was able to make it out safely.

The Red Cross reports they are helping 4 adults who’ve been displaced by this fire.

The fire originally started in a barn behind the home and then spread to the home itself.  At this point significant damage has been done to the roof and backside of the house.

The cause remains under investigation.
