Investigation Continues into Suspicious Hampden Fire
Investigators continued their search today in Hampden at the scene of what they consider a suspicious fire.
Just before 8:30 Friday night — firefighters found this home engulfed in flames.
Hampden fire chief Michael Gorski says this is not a normal occurrence.
“Anytime that we get a call and we arrive very quickly and we’ve got something fully involved, it’s something that we need to investigate thoroughly and make sure that there is a normal cause for that so we’re looking for that,” said Gorski. “At this point it’s still undetermined.”
No one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters say that the house was just purchased two weeks ago.
Owner Craig Morel says he was out of town when it happened.
There were no fire hydrants are near the wooded area.
Six other fire departments – Wilbraham, Monson, Ludlow, East Longmeadow, and Somers, Conn. – helped fight the fire.
It also spread through at least four acres of woods behind the house.
Investigators will return to the scene on Monday to determine the cause.
