Fire Causes Heavy Damage to House and Several Nearby Structures

fireSPRINGFIELD – (WGGB) — A house caught fire on Melville Street in Springfield just after 4pm today.

Authorities say that it’s unclear how the it started… but because of high winds it spread to 2 nearby sheds, another garage, and a house on another street.

“There was someone home at the time,” said Dennis Leger, the executive aid to Springfield’s Fire Commissioner. “He claims that he saw the garage on fire. We’re still investigating. We’re looking to see if there was a neighbor burning leaves in the back which could have caused the fire. So until we talk to everyone, we’re going to leave it under investigation.”

Ledger estimated damage to the house at around $100,000.

No one was hurt in this fire.
