Red Sox B in Black

BOSTON, Mass. (WGGB) — The Red Sox have beaten the Baltimore Orioles on the 101st opening day at Fenway Park.

There was little offense through six and a half innings of play. Both Sox player Clay Buchholz and Wei-Yin Chen for the Orioles pitched well.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 7th inning, when Sox left-fielder Daniel Nava crushed a home run up into the Green Monster, bringing home Mike Napoli and Dustin Pedroia, and giving the Sox a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the ninth, Baltimore’s Adam Jones hit a solo home run against Joel Hanrahan who pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief for the Sox.

Buchholz, who know has an ERA of 0.64 goes 2-0 on the year, and Hanrahan gets the save. Chen goes to 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA.

The Sox improve to 5-2 on the season, while the O’s fall to 3-4 on this early part of the 2013 season.
