Remy Suffers Cancer Relapse

Jerry RemyBOSTON — Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy announced on the air Wednesday night that he has suffered a relapse of lung cancer.  Remy says the relapse happened during the offseason.

Remy, who played for the Red Sox from 1978 through 1984, has called Red Sox games for NESN since 1988.

“It’s lung cancer again, but it’s in a different spot,” Remy said on NESN’s pregame show. “I’m not concerned about it. I’m very upbeat and positive.”

Remy said he plans to keep calling Sox games, without interruption.

Remy missed time during the ’09 season after undergoing surgery to treat lung cancer. He was also out of the booth in 2011 while fighting pneumonia.
