Springfield Natives Shoot Feature Film
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) –Lights, camera, action! On a sunny Springfield day, Dunmoreland Street is buzzing with local actors filming “Who’s On My Side.” “This has never been done. This is the first feature film to ever be done fully in the city of Springfield. There was a movie in the ’60’s where a scene was done, but this is the first actual film and for the city to embrace us, it’s really a blessing,” said Stephen “Stix” Josey, who produces, directs, and acts in the project as Blue.
The movie is an adaptation of author Keyshawn Dodds’ book of the same title, about 2 brothers torn between the streets and the straight and narrow. Partially filmed in the house where Keyshawn grew up, he, like the other actors are hoping this will put Springfield on the map. “We love the city of Springfield. It’s growing, it has a lot of potential, and we just want to make sure we exploit what’s good,” he said. “It’s a blessing you know, being an actor in Massachusetts, you don’t get a lot of opportunities to do what we do here,” added Frank Czarnowski, who plays Sergei. “I want to see it get back to how it was in the ’90’s. When you saw a lot of urban dramas with minorities. Now I see a little bit of resurrection and resurgence, and I would love to see it continue down that path,” noted Scott Neufville, who plays the role of Big Boss.
Who’s On My Side is scheduled to hit theaters this summer, and will also be available on Netflix.
