Four Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint in Springfield


Car-Drunk DrivingSPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – Massachusetts State Police were out in force last night – working to keep intoxicated drivers off the roads.

A sobriety checkpoint was set up on West Columbus Avenue in Springfield – just outside the Basketball Hall of Fame.

According to police, a total of 186 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint. Four people were arrested for operating under the influence.

A saturation patrol set up prior to the checkpoint resulted in three additional arrests, one of which included a drug arrest.

    What is a “saturation patrol”? I’ve never heard of that!

      At a check point, officer stay put and stop cars in a predetermined sequence like every other car, every third car, etc. A saturation patrol involves more officers in patrol cars traveling in a designated area looking for signs of impaired driving in cars on the move.

    Saturation Patrol is a large group of police officers in one small area usually referred to as a “crime hot spot” to reduce crime. GOOGLE it ;)
