WASHINGTON, D.C. (WGGB) — President Obama has signed a disaster declaration, which will help bring federal aid to Massachusetts following Monday’s deadly explosions a the Marathon.
According to a statement from the White House, the aid will “supplement Commonwealth and local response efforts due top the emergency conditions” following the explosions Monday along Boylston Street in Boston.
The declaration covers from Monday through April 22, 2013.
The move by the President authorizes FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security to “coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency.” That order also allows FEMA to identify and allocate equipment and resources that may help alleviate the impact from the bombings.
It also allows for assistance for “required emergency measures” that are aimed at saving lives, as well as protecting property, public health and safety, and help mitigate the threat of a catastrophe in Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk counties.
