UMass Amherst: Bombing Suspects Never Attended University
(WGGB) — Officials at the state’s largest University are clarifying reports that the man at the center of a massive manhunt in eastern Massachusetts was a student at UMass.
Friday morning, some media reports and interviewees indicated that one of the suspects, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, had attended UMass Amherst.
“[Tsarnaev] is not a UMass Amherst student and was never a UMass Amherst student, says UMass spokesperson Daniel Fitzgibbon in a statement to ABC40.
However, officials at UMass Dartmouth have posted to their website that the campus, on the state’s south coast, is in the process of a “controlled evacuation” after the school received information that the person being sought in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing is a registered student.”
