Arson Fire on Main Street in Springfield Under Investigation

photo (18)image (1)SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Fire investigators say that a fire late Saturday in Springfield’s North End was intentionally set.

Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield’s fire commissioner, says the blaze began at approximately 10:10 Saturday night at an apartment building at 2972 Main Street.

It later spread to two neighboring buildings at 2964 Main Street and 6 Portland Street and took several hours to knock down.

Forty-four people were displaced by the fire. The Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has been called in to assist the residents.

No injuries have so far been reported, and firefighters were also able to save a resident’s dog.
