SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — 26-year-old James Miller of Agawam and his 23-year-old Springfield girlfriend have been on-again off-again for several years. Last month, they were on-again until the night she asked to see his cellphone.
“That seems to be a problem with cellphones, she wanted to look at his cellphone because she didn’t trust him,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney. “He didn’t want her to have the cellphone.”
The conversation quickly turned into an argument, then turned violent when Miller hit his girlfriend several times.
“The victim tried to get out of the car and when she did get out of the car, he dragged her back in,” says Delaney.
The woman’s aunt called 911, but Miller had already thrown the car in drive.
“He was assaulting her during this ride,” says Delaney. “He was driving at a high rate of speed and she got scared and he more or less said to her, ‘If you want to see crazy, you haven’t seen crazy yet.’”
Miller then pulled the car onto Spear Road and pulled his girlfriend out of the car by her hair.
“There was a witness that saw this on Spear Road, dialed 911 and got her help until the police arrived,” says Delaney. “The victim was then brought to the Special Victims Unit where she gave a statement and we have a warrent for Mr. Miller now.”
