DA: Saturday is ‘Drug Takeback Day’

Health-PillsNORTHAMPTON, Mass.(WGGB) — Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan announced Saturday ‘Drug Takeback Day’ for Hampshire & Franklin counties.

People went to various locations to anonymously drop off any prescription drugs they no longer wanted… so they could be safely disposed of.

Folks in South Hadley brought their unwanted drugs to the police station.

“You don’t want your grandkids to visit and take them, or your kids<’ explained  Ann Root. “This is a good, safe way to get rid of them, they’ll be incinerated. People don’t have to worry if their name is on the label or anything, no one is ever going to see it.”

It’s the 3rd year South Hadley has participated in the program.

It’s all part of a nationwide initiative.

Over 2 million pounds of drugs have been collected so far.
