Firefighters Respond to a Morning Blaze in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Firefighters responded to a fire Saturday morning on Oak Grove Avenue in Springfield.

It happened at 8:50 a.m. at 189-191 Oak Grove Avenue.

It appears that the fire originated in the second floor kitchen of the two family home.

No one was home in that residence at the time of the fire and the resident living on the first floor escaped unharmed. The Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Red Cross notes that that person was able to find shelter with nearby relatives.

Damage to the home is estimated to be $95,000.

The Red Cross also assisted with canteen services for about 20 fire responders on-scene.

The Springfield Fire Department is still investigating what caused the fire.
