Police- Armed Robbery

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — One man is behind bars Sunday morning after police say he attempted to rob a pizza delivery man at 15 Avon Place in Springfield.

Springfield Police Sergeant Kenneth Murray tells ABC40 that officers were patrolling Maple Street near Avon Place around 1 a.m. Sunday when they noticed a disturbance at 15 Avon Place.

Murray adds that Robert Owens was spotted pushing another man with what was later determined to be a 9mm gun.

As police approached the victim, a pizza delivery man exclaimed that Owens had tried to rob him. Owens fled and the police followed in pursuit and called in their K-9 unit.

Owens was arrested near 175 Maple Street and has been charged with multiple offenses including robbery, possession of a firearm, carrying without a license and felony firearm possession.

Owens, who police say is homeless, was also carrying a small amount of crack cocaine at the time of the arrest.
