Service Academy Day for local High School Students

nealCHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Congressman Richard Neal hosted his annual US Military Service Academy Day for local high school students.

The event… at Westover Air Reserve Base… focuses on students interested in pursuing a nomination to one of our country’s outstanding service academies: West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy.

“This is the first time we’ve been really recognized for our application and getting into our academy, so it was really exciting,” said student, Brett Flaharty. “And it was a great experience to be able to talk to the people who were looking at them.”

“These kids are pretty remarkable,” said Neal. “We need to begin this process when they’re 13, 14 years old. It culminates in a successful day like this.”

In all, Neal announced service academy appointments for 5 students from Western and Central Mass.
