Mass. Senate Hopefuls in Final Pre-Primary Push

Politics-Vote
BOSTON (AP) — Three Republicans and two Democrats seeking the nominations of their parties to run in a special U.S. Senate election are making a final pre-primary push for votes.

The race to fill the Massachusetts seat formerly held by Secretary of State John Kerry has been almost completely overshadowed by the Boston Marathon bombing and subsequent events. A light turnout is expected for Tuesday’s primary.

The Republican candidates are businessman and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez; former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan; and state Rep. Daniel Winslow. All three plan campaign stops south of Boston on Monday.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey plans to greet voters at North Station later Monday. His Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, canceled some campaign events because of illness but hopes to attend an evening rally.
