Bostonians Warned Not to be Alarmed by Loud Booms

BOSTON OFFICER 3

BOSTON (AP) — Authorities are warning Bostonians, perhaps still jittery after the Boston Marathon bombings, not to be alarmed if they here loud booms in the city this week.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warns residents of Brookline and Boston that they may hear loud, gunshot-like booms this week as the agency runs tests of support structures for the Muddy River Restoration Project.

The project manager says the tests are scheduled to start today and run through May 10.

The project in the city’s Fenway section will restore sections of the river that currently run through underground pipes, and install a series of pipes to prevent flooding that has damaged nearby properties.

Police will also stop traffic during the tests.

They should however, be alarmed if shrapnel goes whizzing by or hits their bodies somewhere.
