What’s Next for Springfield’s Casino Process

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Now that Springfield officials have chosen a developer for a host agreement, what happens next?

The host community agreement must now be approved by Springfield’s City Council, and then by Springfield voters.

The city says they are aiming for a referendum by July 16.

The state gaming commission still holds the final say on where the sole western Mass. casino license will be awarded.

The commission still has to consider proposals in Palmer by Mohegan Sun and West Springfield by Hard Rock.

The Gaming Commission is set to award the first licenses in early 2014.
