4-Year-Old Rescued after Falling Down Window Well

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A young child is in an area hospital after falling through a grate and down an eight foot hole Thursday.

Just after 1:00 p.m., Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield’s Fire Commissioner, says that firefighters were called to 310 State Street after a report of a child had fallen down a hole.

Leger adds that a 4-year-old had been standing on top of a metal grate covering a window well, when the grate then collapsed, and the child fell about eight feet down that well.

The child was then hit in the arm by the grate as it fell.

Rescue crews were able to get down the hole and quickly get the child out.

Leger says the child was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
