Dyson was tabbed as a 3-star recruit by ESPN.com. He averaged 23.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game during his senior season at Covington High School in Tennessee. He was also a strong shooter from deep, shooting 50% FG, 34% 3pt FG, and a solid 78% FT.
According to several reports, Dyson had previously committed to Lipscomb, but changed his mind, and officially signed with UMass.
Dyson joins an incoming freshman class that features small forwards Zach Coleman, Seth Berger and Clyde Santee. In addition, UMass will see Derrick Gordon on the floor this year. Gordon transferred from West Virginia, and has 3 years of eligibility remaining.
