Northampton Celebrates Cinco de Mayo

photo (25)NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (wggb) — Many turned out to Mama Iguana’s in Northampton to celebrate Cinco de Mayo today. The restaurant hosted a weekend’s worth of events which included a fiesta today with giveaways for patrons.

Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday in Mexico that actually originated in American-Mexican communities in the West. The holiday commemorates the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the Civil War in the United States. The date is also observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
