Vt. Police Catch Driver Clocked in Excess of 120 MPH

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Police say a motorist who was driving in excess of 120 mph was apprehended after an extended chase.

Officials say Burlington Police Cpl. Wade Labrecque attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling more than 120 mph, weaving in and out of traffic and using the shoulder of northbound Interstate 89 to pass traffic.

Authorities say the officer stopped his pursuit due to rain and heavy traffic before eventually catching up to the vehicle being driven by 23-year-old Kelly Fuller of Athens, Ga., after it was slowed by traffic.

Authorities say Fuller sped away into oncoming traffic, striking a vehicle before his car hit spike strips that slowly deflated the two driver’s side tires. Police say Fuller pulled his car into a parking lot on the University of Vermont campus and attempted to flee, before being caught by Labrecque.

No additional information was released.
