Boston Man Pleads Guilty to Killing Abuser
BOSTON (AP) — A Boston man authorities say killed an older man who sexually abused him as a child, then set fire to his apartment, has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Marco Flores had faced a first-degree murder charge, but on Thursday pleaded guilty to the lesser offense.
Prosecutors say the now 19-year-old Flores used a metal dog chain to strangle 28-year-old Jaime Galdamez in May 22, and then set the older man’s apartment on fire.
Flores was 17 at the time.
Prosecutors say Galdamez, a family friend, started the abuse when Flores was 9 years old and continued it for several years.
Flores’ lawyer says his client snapped when he thought a younger relative might be in danger of abuse by Galdamez.
